UNOQUIP introduces sustainable inland water transport to its European Distribution Center
UNOQUIP has taken a significant step toward greener logistics by introducing inland water transport for containers destined for the Movianto-managed European Distribution Center (EDC) in Belgium. This shift replaces container truck shipments with an environmentally friendly alternative, reducing emissions and improving operational efficiency.
The containers are transported by barge from the Port of Antwerp to the La Louvière terminal, located less than 2 km from the warehouse. From there, they are unloaded, goods received, palletized and transferred to EDC shelves, ensuring the timely preparation and delivery of medical devices to hospitals and healthcare providers.
The benefits of this shift include:
Reduced Transport Bottlenecks
By avoiding road traffic and reducing reliance on container trucks, we ensure more reliable, timely deliveries.
Environmental Efficiency
Barges produce fewer emissions per unit of cargo, supporting sustainability goals and contributing to greener logistics.
Faster Unloading and Transfer
The proximity of the La Louvière terminal accelerates unloading and inventory processing, ensuring faster readiness for shipment.
This initiative underscores UNOQUIP's commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. By reducing reliance on container trucks, we are minimizing our environmental impact while improving logistics efficiency.
We are proud to implement this optimized transport method for all containers arriving at the Movianto warehouse and look forward to its positive effects on operations and the environment.
